Ctrl-Alt-Del Your Life Now, Or You Will Hate Yourself Later

Posted by admin in Goal Setting

Control

Mines of power lie unexplored within you. You use this power unconsciously in all things you do, and you achieve certain results; But if you learn to consciously control and use the power within you, you can accomplish much more. ~ Paramahansa Yogananda (1893-1952)

There are lots of things we have to do and there are loads of things we want to do, however we are limited to 24 hour days. (which includes eating and sleeping as well!) I have often felt that with each passing year the pace of life too, increases proportionately. Do you feel the same? If so, what are the things/areas you can control, in order to enhance your life?

Alternate

Know how to choose. Most things in life depend on it. You need good taste and an upright judgment; intelligence and application are not enough. There is no perfection without discernment and selection. Two talents are involved: choosing and choosing the best. There are many people with a fertile, subtle intelligence, rigorous judgment, both diligent and well informed, who are lost when they have to choose. They always choose the worst, as though they wanted to show their skill at doing so. Knowing how to choose is one of heavens greatest gifts. - Baltasar Gracian, The Art of Worldly Wisdom

If I were to ask you, When was the last time, you did something for the first time? I wonder how many of you would actually have an answer. Yes, we have choices. Are you aware of all your choices? Are you happy where you are? Are you willing to make your life, less monotonous?
So what are the things/areas you can alternate, in order to enhance your life?

Delete

Often in life, we put up with a lot of things, we really dont have to. If there is something/someone in your life you do not want, it is about time to find the cause and remove it.
Or, it may be as simple ( and complicated!) as forgiving yourself.
Anger, hate, Nail biting, smoking, alcohol etc Whats your delete list?

So, I ask once again, What things will you Ctrl-Alt-Del for the year 2007, in order to enhance your life?

Four Simple Steps to Making Goals Work

Posted by admin in Goal Setting

You have heard it before. Goals are secrets of the Champions. You have probably listed your goals as instructed from a book, an audio course or personal development trainer, but alas! The anticipated results werent yielded. Why.

Elite athletes and successful entrepreneurs dedicate their achievement to setting goals. Successful sports persons/team managers/coaches have integrated goals in their coaching strategies. They tell us goal setting is a must; it works, full stop. So where do we go wrong?

Lets explore this together in four simple but crucial steps. We are not going to go through the goal setting techniques per se, we are just going to identify and fill in those missing links.

Step one: Identify the Goal/s
Ask yourself; what do you want? We, as human beings are naturally goal seeking. We move towards what preoccupies our minds, what we think of. As the famous aphorism goes; Energy follows thought.

If you dont establish a conscious direction you desire to move to, you may be moving in a direction you dont want. This might appear to be easy, but the fact is, very few people are clear about exactly what it is they want to achieve, and hence have got no conscious direction. They bump from wall to wall.

Set yourself apart from the majority of aimlessly drifting masses by knowing exactly what you want to achieve.

Step two: Find the relationship between your goals and your values
Now, for the most powerful question, ask yourself why you want to achieve those particular goals.

Do you want a BMW? Why? You are saying it is because you have always loved big powerful luxurious car? No, that is not the answer you are looking for. Is it status you are looking for, or make yourself attractive? No. all these are by-products of an underlying reason, I call them conscious justifications.

Now, ask yourself these essential questions: How will it feel for you to own a big powerful luxurious brand new BMW? What will your emotional state being be like? Describe the feeling. Feel the feelings of achieving your goals. What is it that you are really after? Is it self-esteem, self-confidence or are you looking for approval from society pressures?

Take enough time to relate your goals with your deep seated emotions so as to find congruence between your goals and your values as an individual, as this is the cornerstone of achieving your goals.

Your goals MUST match your individual values and they must start a ripple of desire to actualise them. If this wont happen then you will end up sabotaging them.

So, next time you want to keep those eyes on the prize, dont just see yourself (visualise) with your BMW getting excited, go deeper and feel the underlying emotions, the deep-seated reason, the sense of accomplishing a goal, the heightened self-esteem/self-confidence/self-efficacy; the reinforcement of your core individual values.

Step three: Enhance the passion
Your goals must ignite the passion within you, the desire to reach them, and most importantly this passion, the yearning, must be constant. There are two basic ways to keep the hunger to reach your goals alive.

The first one is daily creative visualisations; the second is writing your goals and read them at least twice a day. Once after you wake up and again before you go to bed. When you read or visualise your goals, incorporate the emotions that go with achieving your goals. Use anchoring to augment the effects.

Step four: Experience your goals as being a reality
Every time you read or visualise your goals live the experience of your goals as if you have achieved them. This helps the mind to accept that what you tell it is true, and it will go to work to help you achieve your goals by programming the goals into your subconscious mind.

By following these four steps, you will condition your mind into accepting that your wishes are a reality and need to be actualised. Your subconscious mind will then go to work to pave the way for you.

Goal clarity - Sports or Studies?

Posted by admin in Goal Setting

A child is a beam of sunlight from the Infinite and Eternal, with possibilities of virtue and vice - but as yet unstained. - Lyman Abbott (1835-1922, American congregational clergyman and editor)

Kids or teens always run to play in the ground. Parents naturally shout to concentrate on their studies. If this is during examinations both parents and kids feel the stress due to their priorities demanded by the situation. Students must study during study time and play during play time, but mostly feel that they have to concentrate on their studies to get the grades required for further studies and better future.

High School and Elementary students feel the pressure from their peers to become fit or be cool. This kind of pressure creates an impression that you must be one or another. You must be smart or you should become an athlete. This article discusses the importance of Sports as well as Studies and how to balance both for a secure future.

Believe it or not, academics relate to athletics! Many sports games rely on logic and memorization. Enhancing your math skills, through studying and doing your home work, you will be exercising your brain to work fast in problem solving situations you face during virtually any team sport, such as football, volleyball and basketball. These sports require players to interact and think fast to reach the final goal. Math and reading assignments help prepare students to think logically and fast in these and other real-life situations.

Moreover, if you are serious about your sport, then you will be traveling a lot during school. This is because you will be competing with your school or extracurricular sports team. Traveling frequently means that you have to miss your actual classes. Even through you are an athlete and may miss instruction, teachers still expect you to learn the skills they are teaching when you are gone! By taking homework assignments seriously, you will be teaching yourself the skills that your teachers are presenting in the classroom. This is very important because you will need to know these math or reading skills for tests and also for future classes! Many schools have minimum grade point average requirements for their student athletes. If a student falls behind in their classes, they must take a break from their sports team until they are able to pull their grades back up. This gives students extra motivation to learn their needed skills and strive to do well in the classroom.

Academics also help athletes stay focussed. Learning to study and do homework while on a noisy bus on the way to or from a sports competition will certainly teach someone how to block unnecessary distractions. This is a very valuable skill for athletes in particular. As you probably know, other athletes are instructed to try to distract you during team play so you will not do as well and so their team can score. All of the practice of blocking out distractions while studying will prepare you for times like these.

Doing well in school will also motivate you to succeed in life. The vast majority of elementary through high school athletes are not going to become professional athletes. This means that you need to start to prepare today for whatever career you choose for tomorrow. Even if you have what it takes to become a professional athlete, you will greatly benefit from a business degree or at lease the math and reading skills that are necessary to complete personal tasks such as paying bills, balancing banking accounts, and paying taxes. Above all, it is easy to become injured as an athlete, keeping up your grades and learning essential and advanced math and reading skills is like investing in a life insurance plan ! If something bad happens to you forcing you to quit your athletic career, you will have the skills you need to find another career.

While this article has focused on the benefits of academics in relation to athletics, it is important to remember that physical activity and organized sports can also help students excel in the classroom! Keep these thoughts in mind the next time a student informs you that you have to be either student or sportsman, because chances are they are missing out on an important and worthwhile aspect of their life. Discuss the points in this article with them and help them out to have a clarity regarding their goal in life.

The Way To Success

Posted by admin in Goal Setting

Is this the way to a successful life? Where does it start and where does it end? When do we know if it is the right way?

As many questions going through our minds to find out the right way we work and believe that this is it.
Who determines if it s right? What does it?
Is it the results that will be the answer? Can it be the way we feel that tells us this is great!

I believe that first you have to find out what you think is the success in your life.
It seems to be so different from one to another.
Some people wants healthy life others wealthy.
Regardless of what it is you have to find your path.

How do we find the right path?
Well, first of all. What do you like to do?
If you focus on the things you love you will attract the spirit of what to make out of it.

Look at the successful sportsmen!
They have been doing exactly the same over and over again.
If you do it with enough of times you will eventually be good at it.
They have a dream for a start to become the best person in their sport.
Then they start practicing for years. Playing games, tournaments.
Do they always win? No! We know that too.
What makes us believe that it would be any different in ordinary life than in the elite sports?

I have been a sports woman for many years so I know well the game.
It started for me as a dream too.
I was brought up with alcoholics in my family.

There was a lack of money. Every summer I was staying home in my own environment. My friends had summer houses or were away for camps. My first big dream was to travel somewhere. Lucky me I had a great teacher who was at the time a successful ice hockey coach.
He took Sweden and Finland National Teams and made them World Champions in different years of course.

Curt Lindstrom was my first mentor. He told me that if you want to be out travelling become as good as you can in sports to qualify you for the National Team. So I did.
I played handball for twenty years in the second league and softball for the Swedish National Team!

Whatever you dream you can achieve.
Since then I have been travelling around the world many times.

Today I have different goals from dreams.
As years passes on we change them because ones you have achieved them there are not dreams any more they are now reality.
Once you found the key to it you just do it over and over again.

Be sure of what you dream because once you get it you wonder is this I want?
So beware of what you dream. Dream good things. Positive and healthy. Always focus at the future. What had happened in the past does not equal the future. Try again if it is not working. Try different ways. If your mind is sure what you want you will eventually get it.
It is just a matter of time!

The Importance of Goal Setting

Posted by admin in Goal Setting

The whole point of setting a goal is to help you bridge the gap between where you are and where you want to be. If you set goals and work toward them diligently, you can have all the things you want. People who set and achieve their goals are people whove decided what they want, committed themselves to going after it, and havent let anything stand in their way short of violating the rights of others.

A proper goal gives you all the incentive you need to grow in your awareness of being a perfect expression of an Infinite power, designed for excellence and abundance. As you become more welcoming and aware of your relationship with God, and of all the potential thats been built into you, youll function more effectively in harmony with the laws of the universe. Living in synch with all of this will yield results youve never dreamed possible.

They say that awareness is curative. It gives deep meaning to life because it spells the end of your robotic existence no more walking in the deep ruts formed by your harmful programming and counterproductive thought life. These old ways of thinking arent ways youve chosen they were planted in your heart when you were young by your parents, teachers, and religious leaders. While some of these programs serve you well, many of them are harmful and ready to be replaced. The old way of living has kept you from a truly abundant life.

But, in order to truly change, your old habits have to be replaced with new, healthy practices. Having a solid goal in place serves as a constant help as you do this. In fact, without a specific goal, youre unlikely to ever make a significant change in your life. While youre on your way toward achieving your goals, you learn to choose which thoughts youll allow into your mind. Youll see the connection between these thoughts, the feelings and attitudes they produce, and ultimately the results they yield. Its not something someone else can do for you.

Ever notice how your life never really stays the same? Youre either improving it or damaging it your actions arent neutral. As a spiritual being, your spirit constantly seeks expansion and greater expression. When this deep desire is thwarted, you experience a feeling of dissatisfaction. That feeling is unpleasant enough to serve as a good motivator. We hate feeling unfulfilled, and work diligently to escape such an unpleasant feeling. Well do pretty much anything to satisfy this need.

This need for fulfillment goes way beyond just things and money although they are important. They give you comfort and opportunity. It goes beyond happy feelings or a sense of peace although theyre important, too. Our drive for complete fulfillment includes these things, but goes so much further its a deep desire for a big purpose, something that catapults you into creativity, into meaningful and effective service.

Great you were created to pursue worthy goals. How do you set them? How do you go after them? What can you do to make sure you achieve these grand goals?

Half the battle with goal-setting is determining exactly what it is that you want. Sounds easy enough you answer that question just fine at a restaurant, on your birthday, when you get your hair cut. But when it comes to the big what do you want question, minds go blank. We dont know whats okay to ask for. Whats too much? Am I overreaching? How am I going to feel if I ask for something thats beyond possibility?

Wow, such bad programming we pick up! Ask any little kid what they want to be when they grow up and youll hear answers like: the President, an astronaut, a gazillionaire, a cat, a rock star. Nothing seems impossible; nothing seems like itll come back to haunt you if it doesnt work out.

Deciding what you want is risky. Telling someone else can feel uncomfortable. You might feel like youve got to preface it with something like, Please dont tell anyone Can you keep a secret I know it sounds crazy, but But you know what? People who set and achieve awesome goals are risk takers theyve learned to be. They know that theyve got the privilege and duty to design their own lives, make their own decisions. They dare to dream, and dream big. The power is in going after what you want, not in going after what you need.

Think you dont have what it takes to meet your goals? Then heres some great news youve already got everything that could ever be necessary to produce amazing results in your life. Youve got access to all you need whether you see it right now or not. So, dont worry about that as you choose goals. Assume you have every resource you need, right at your fingertips because you do.

Needs To Know: Part 6-The Young Adult

Posted by admin in Goal Setting

Having passed through adolescence, not without bumps, dents, scars and complexes, all of which are part and parcel of the individuals identity, the person now emerges into young adulthood. With the challenges and crisis that have paved the path during the last two decades, it should not be surprising that many of the needs the young adult strives to satisfy are colored by unmet needs of adolescence and childhood. Identity may not be secured; questions about competency and industriousness may intrude; there may be issues about initiative and autonomy. Despite this, the young adult finds new more pressing needs emerging such as career development, partnership and genuine intimacy. Young adulthood spans the period from about 22 years of age into the mid 30s.

Although parents are likely still very much in the picture, they no longer hold the tremendous power and control they have in the past. Now, the main influence comes from work colleagues and, particularly potent in this stage, the marital partner. However, as a young adult, it is now up to the individual to discover how best to meet his or her emerging needs.

Some pointers for this stage include:

  • Dont neglect the earlier needs that may still be striving for satisfaction.
  • Learn good communication skills and use them with parents, friends, colleagues and significant others.
  • Read some books about what it means to be intimate. Question the models you have internalized growing up.
  • This is not only a period of giving love and affection but also of receiving love and affection. Explore your feelings and be honest with yourself.
  • Build affiliations both professional and social.
  • Seek a balance between work and pleasure social/professional activities and persona/private intimacy
  • Examine your goals, your vision, your weaknesses and your strengths. Are you heading in the right direction?

Social and cultural forces often dictate how a person passes through any given development stage. Our western culture trends to be relatively rigid and our post industrial era often place an undue emphasis on achievement at a young age. For those who have the opportunity to experience a developmental hiatus, a break in the normal process, the initial period of early adulthood is the perfect time. The ages of about 22 26 is an ideal period to postpone career development, intimacy and starting a family in favor of travel to foreign places (even if its just out of state), meeting new people, having new experiences, breaking out of the mold, expanding and growing. The military or humanitarian endeavors such as the Peace Corps can provide such opportunities as can simply hopping on a bus and heading out for some unplanned adventures.

If a person is not able to meet the needs of this stage, isolation tends to replace intimacy. Promiscuity and demanding exclusivity are behavioral symptoms of an isolated individual incapable of genuine affection and the forming of intimate bonds.

It wasnt so long ago that the average life span was much shorter than it is today. Back then, early adulthood was considered what today would be mid adulthood. Life expectancy wasnt much past 40. Now, mid adulthood is the half way point with several developmental needs awaiting to emerge and be satisfied

Get the Red Out

Posted by admin in Goal Setting

If youre finding your debt payments are increasing but your salary is stuck in place, youre not alone. Millions of Americans are making the mistake of living a lifestyle thats not in synch with their take-home pay. Unfortunately, when that paycheck doesnt increase, a natural tendency is to purchase more items on credit to keep pace with the Joness. It makes for an ugly cycle, but one you pull yourself out of by following a few simple tips:

1. Less is more. The first thing you should consider is spending less. Easier said than done, but the reality of the situation is that you are spending too much if you dont have the cash to pay off your balance at the end of the month. Tempting as it may be, you should only reach for the plastic if youre absolutely certain that you can pay off that credit card bill in full at the end of every month. If you dont get a handle on your spending debts, your debts will put a stranglehold on your bank account.

2. Defeat your debt one card at a time. If you owe balances on several credit cards, pay them off one at a time. Make at least the minimum payments on each balance every month, but plan on paying much more than the minimum amount on the card with the smallest balance. Once the lowest balance card has been paid off, start making larger payments on the card with the next highest balance. With each card that you pay off, youll pick up momentum and be in a better position to pay off the other cards.

3. Refinance debt. If at all possible, renegotiate the interest rates you are being charged by credit card companies. Some companies will lower your rate, especially if they sense that the higher rate could cause you to default on your loan. If your credit card company refuses to drop their high rates, consider transferring your funds to a card with a lower rate. You may want to mention to your current credit card provider that you plan on making a move away from them if they will not give you a lower rate. A little leverage can go a long way.

Paying off your debt can help you in many ways. Once you pay off your debt, youll be in a better position to make purchases based on what you can afford. Getting out of debt will improve your standard of living as you shake free of those credit card balances and use your newfound cash flow to build wealth.

While youre currently in the same boat as many Americans, at least youre not up a creek without a paddle. Follow the steps above, and instead of trying to swim upstream, youll be going with the cash flow.

Set Your Goals Consciously

Posted by admin in Goal Setting

A new year is upon us. A fresh beginning. Twelve whole months to achieve this, become that, and acquire the other. Whatever your goals or resolutions are for 2007, be they overwhelmingly gigantic, or very reasonably attainable, the secret to achieving them is to take consistent steps in the direction you want to go in.

And believe it or not, the first step is to know not only what you want, but why you want it. This is important because it goes to the heart of your motivation. If youre not crystal clear as to why you want what you want, then when the usual procrastination triggers occur youre very likely to fall prey to them. This may sound a little off the wall, but you may not want what you think you want, or you may not want it for the reasons you think.

It is a very common experience among coaches to have clients show up with a particular agenda, and for it to emerge some sessions down the line that the real agenda is something else entirely. Why? Because for the most part we live our lives unconsciously, and we set ourselves goals and follow them unconsciously. When we get in touch with what really matters to us, we often discover that what we really want is much more simple than what we thought we were after all along.

Or indeed it may be much more complex and challenging a prospect than what we wanted to take on, and therefore we were trying to convince ourselves that we wanted something else, something easier to achieve. Knowing what we really want, and why we really want it, can be unsettling, but it is also energising and motivating. When its a deeply felt authentic desire, pursuing it will be a joy in itself.

When you get down to the essence of what you want, you can tell immediately if it supports your core values or is in conflict with them. If theres a conflict, you can be absolutely certain that you will sabotage yourself along the way, even though you might not be consciously aware of why youre not seeing it through. When your goals are in alignment with your values, youll have the commitment to see it through despite the difficulties youll encounter.

One of my major ambitions for this year is to start running personal retreats helping people to learn how to be truly happy. I want to build outdoor adventure activities into the mix, and make these workshops a significant part of my business. I dont know when, or where exactly, or the precise how-tos yet. But none of that worries me because I do know why I want to do it.

I want to do this because I want to combine group coaching with fun activities, as I come across people all the time who are prepared to spend more money on holidays than on their own personal development, and yet they are asking themselves why they arent happy. And I am committed to helping people to realise that they can be happy right here right now, without the perceived perfect life conditions they wish for.

I want to do it because it will be fun for me too, and I am totally committed to having fun in my life at all times. For me, fun isnt about frivolity, or at least not exclusively! Its about thoroughly enjoying what Im doing at the time Im doing it.

I also want to feel free at all times. Freedom for me is about always feeling that I have a choice, never doing something out of a feeling of obligation, but rather because right now its what I want to do.

I want my life to be a continuous adventure. The fact that right now I just have the bare bones of a plan, with all of the details still to be fleshed out, scared me at first. But now I view it as an adventure. I know what I want and why I want it, and Im going to give myself as much time as I need to discover exactly how to, rather than pressurising myself to deliver it as soon as possible. To do that would be to make it too much like hard work - the opposite of fun and freedom! Hmm, I might even need to head off on some personal retreat for myself as a first step - what a thrilling idea. . .

And along the way, I might discover that what I really want to do is something else entirely. That would be absolutely fine with me, as I would make that discovery doing what I really, really want, which is to explore possibilities with a sense of fun and freedom.

So, my point is, before blindly chasing your goals, know why it is youre going after them. What will having achieved that give you? Stay focussed on the essence of what youre after, and if you end up taking detours along the way, or even changing course altogether, it really wont matter. Youll have enjoyed the journey, which at the end of the day is what life is all about.

Hilda Carroll is a life and business coach who specialises in helping her clients to enjoy the journey, by realising the ability to BE happy WHILE they pursue their goals, the achievement of which then becomes a bonus, rather than the basis of their happiness.
